Ann Mackinnon is a self-taught artisan who works from her home studio located in the beautiful Yellow Point area of Vancouver Island, Canada.
Her Upcycled by Design jewelry is created with an eye to reusing, recycling and renewing. Many pieces have a whimsical Steampunk flair, some are romantic and floral, others are new age and edgy. While there is a strong focus on design, her work is wearable and well constructed and the use of upcycled materials is a common thread.
Over time, Ann’s work has evolved into three distinct lines: Lost Time Creations, Broken China and most recently, Circuit Board Jewelry.
Vintage watch mechanisms are used in Ann’s Lost Time Creations. Her jewelry exposes the intricate beauty, the seldom seen treasures that are contained within the once valued wristwatch.
Beloved family china, now damaged or discarded is carefully cut and shaped to create alluring broken china pieces. Ann captures the beautiful china floral patterns to create valued keepsake jewelry.
A recent addition to her up-cycled jewelry lines: Circuit Board Jewelry exposes the intricate detail of PCB salvaged from discarded electronics.
A love of history and all things vintage affords Ann the opportunity to make old things new again. She cleverly breathes new life to once valued but no longer useful items that rest in the back of desk drawers and dark cabinets.
Ann is a passionate and talented creator, and this is clearly reflected in her work that can be purchased online, in a number of retail outlets and at numerous adjudicated fairs.
